UNSOED Relaunches International KKN Program

[unsoed.ac.id, Mon, 08/01/24] The Institute for Research and Community Service or Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) of Unsoed has once again launched the International Community Service Program or Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN). A total of 19 selected students from various faculties will dedicate themselves to community service in Malaysia and Thailand this January to February.

Some of the participants are from the Faculty of Economics and Business (13 people),  Faculty of Agriculture (1 person), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (1 person), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (1 person), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (1 person), and Faculty of Humanities (1 person).

In addition to targeting the development of intercultural skills and broadening students’ horizons, International KKN is also intended to contribute to humanity on a global level. This program strongly supports Unsoed’s vision of internationalization.

The rector of Unsoed, Prof. Dr. Ir. Akhmad Sodiq, M.Sc, IPU., ASEAN Eng in his speech at the official release of KKN students at LPPM (3/1), emphasized that International KKN is not only a service, but also an opportunity for students to become agents of global change, helping to solve community problems in foreign countries.

The Head of LPPM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elly Tugiyanti, M.P., IPU, highlighted the role of students as cultural ambassadors. “International KKN gives a chance for students to build bridges between cultures and strengthen the university’s positive image at the international level,” she said.

KKN participants in Malaysia departed on Saturday (6/1) accompanied by the Head of the International KKN Implementation Team, Ahmad Sabiq, SIP., MA. The KKN in Thailand departed the day before, Friday (5/1) accompanied by the Secretary of the International KKN Implementation Team, Dr. Ridwan Kamaludin, M.Si.

The theme of this year’s International KKN in Malaysia is “Unlocking Potential for Sustainable Progress in Education” which reflects Unsoed’s commitment to improving the quality of education for children of the Indonesian migrant worker community in Malaysia who have so far struggled to gain access to education. While the theme of International KKN Thailand, “Where Cultures Collide, Community Thrive,” shows Unsoed’s commitment to strengthening community relations between the two countries.

Hopefully, not only will this program be a concrete step in helping to solve social and community issues in the ASEAN region, but also build a solid foundation for closer cooperation in the region.
