UNSOED Contributes To Realize Healthy And Empowered Farmer

[unsoed.ac.id, Mon, 04/04/22] The impact of the pandemic is being felt by the people in Indonesia, including farmers in villages as producers of staple foods which the whole society needs. Universitas Jenderal Soedirman / Unsoed collaborated with LPDP to conduct a village research study for community empowerment in villages. The theme of village research, chaired by Dr. Dwi Sarwani Sri Rejeki, SKM, M.Kes(Epid) and consists of Dr. Dwita Darmawati, SE, M.Si, Dyah Susanti SP, MP and dr. Zaenury Sp.KF, M, Si.Med is “Covid-19 Pandemic Tough Village based on Seber Farmers (Healthy and Empowered)”.

Dr. Dwi Sarwani Sri Rejeki, SKM, M.Kes(Epid) said that agriculture is a sector that supports food security which is crucial during the economic crisis during the pandemic. Not only limited to survival, but also related to people's nutritional intake that plays a role in increasing body immunity. It is necessary to strive for improving the health and empowerment of farmers in producing food and nutrition, especially rice as the main food ingredient for the Indonesian people. "Universitas Jenderal Soedirman / Unsoed have produced high-yielding varieties of rice with high protein and Zn content which have been released based on a decree. The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 980/HK.540/C/10/2020 under the name Inpago Unsoed Protani which was assembled through half-diallel crosses and the stability of the results has been studied through a series of multi-location tests," she said.

Technological intervention, one of which is the Inpago Unsoed Protani superior variety, is expected to increase production, support the health and economic empowerment of farmers in maintaining food security during the Covid-19 pandemic. Increasing the resilience of farmers in Linggasari Village, Kembaran District as a support for national resilience in the face of a pandemic through strengthening technology in agriculture in the form of using superior functional rice varieties. Its health and economic aspects need to be studied as the basis for developing a resilient village model for the Covid-19 pandemic based on Healthy and Empowered Farmers (Seber) in the Era of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

"This activity also aims to support the competency development of university graduates through the implementation of the MBKM program, namely student learning in the community and developing models of healthy and empowered farmers during the pandemic," she explained. This activity involved 5 students from various study programs in completing the final project. The locus targeted for this activity is Linggasari Village, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency.

Stages of activities include: 1) Measuring the health status of farmers, their nutritional status, Hb, blood pressure, cholesterol (triglycerides, LDL and HDL), uric acid and blood sugar will be measured. On March 30, 2022, health checks were carried out on farmers, the number of farmers being examined is 100 people. The research team collaborated with PRODIA in taking blood samples and examinations. Knowledge, attitudes and behavior during the pandemic among farmers were also identified 2) Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on farmers' problems from the aspect of agricultural technology and cultivation 3) FGD on farmers' problems from economic and management aspects 4) Study the application of superior products of the Inpago Unsoed variety (demonstration) 5) A workshop on a pandemic resilient village model based on seber farmers.
