Masters in Political Science, Expert: Villages Must Be Subjects Again!

[unsoed.ac.id, Wed, 17/08/22] The Unsoed Political Science Masters Program was officially launched by the Dean of FISIP Unsoed Dr. Wahyuningrat through a National Seminar that discussed the dynamics of rural politics in the era of disruption on August 16, 2022. The seminar which was attended by guests such as representatives from the Regency KPU, Bawaslu and the village head presented an academic expert on village studies, Dr. Sutoro Eko and lecturer in Political Science Unsoed Dr. Khairu R Sobandi.

In the seminar, Dr. Sutoro Eko invites students and academics to encourage the development of Political Science that is not fixated on textbooks that come from outside. In the context of political studies on villages, for example, there are many studies that do not add to our knowledge of villages or even perpetuate a technocratic way of thinking that sees villages only as objects of development imposed by the state/supra-village.

Dr. Sutoro Eko’s invitation to develop a study of rural politics that places villages and their citizens as subjects was also agreed by the next speaker. The dynamics of rural politics that lead to the possibility of democratization at the village level was explained by Dr. Khairu R Sobandi. The results of his research show that changes in the political-economic structure caused by the presence of a new economic elite from ex-migrant workers have an impact on the collapse of the domination of the old elite and encouraging democratization at the village level.
