Genetic Expertise to Develop Medicinal Plants
Born in August 1959 in Purwokerto, Prof. Dr. Agus Hery Susanto, M.S. completed his bachelor education (S1) in the Department of Biology at Jenderal Soedirman University in 1983 and master’s degree in 1990 at Padjajaran University with Plant Science as a focus study. Before being named as a professor in 2022, he pursued his doctoral education in the Department of Biology at Jenderal Soedirman University in 2018.
Prof. Dr. Agus Hery Susanto, M.S.’s research focus is in the field of genetics, especially plant genetics. He said that since becoming a lecturer at Unsoed in 1986, he began to work on various kinds of research in the field of genetics, while his focus was still rather broad, including animals, microbial, fish and plant genetics. Afterward, approximately in 2015, he just began to narrow the focus of research in the field of plant genetics, and approaching his doctoral studies he began researching plant population genetics. Some of his research focuses on examining the population genetics of Catharanthus (tapak dara) as a medicinal plant. In his research, he collaborated with the pharmaceutical sector. While some of his other research collaborated with lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture Unsoed, especially in the field of plant breeding.
Prof. Dr. Agus Hery Susanto, M.S. has several books published, some are textbooks and some are teaching books. His textbook entitled Genetics was published by CV. Graha Ilmu in 2011, while his teaching book version of Genetics was published by Unsoed Press as teaching materials for lectures consisting of the materials as well as the questions and answer keys. He also won the Unsoed Award in the field of learning development of genetics lectures in 2015. The National research grants from Ditjen Dikti (Directorate General of Higher Education) that has been achieved by him are competitive and fundamental grants with him as the team leader in 2005. As a researcher as well as inventor in the field of genetics, he has 10 DNA sequence accession numbers that have the potential to be patented. Besides being a researcher, he has also been a reviewer in International journals, such as UNS International Scopus and International MIPA journal, and the editorial board of Biosfera Biology Magazine.
